Title: Enneagram: The Basics and Beyond — Applications in Clinical Practice and Team Dynamics
Julia Nepini, LICSW, is a clinical and forensic social
worker with extensive experience in crisis intervention, community mental
health, and medical social work. She is the founder and owner of Compassionate
Counseling Company, a group practice she established in 2017 that has grown to
a team of 30 serving individuals, couples, and families across Massachusetts
and Rhode Island. In 2021, she launched Compassionate Consulting Company,
offering coaching, mastermind programs, and professional trainings to
clinicians building and scaling their own practices. She also hosts the
Compassionate Climb podcast, where she explores the intersection of business
success and professional integrity.
The Enneagram is a dynamic model of the human psyche
that identifies nine core personality types, each defined by distinct
motivations, fears, and behavioral patterns. Despite growing clinical interest,
its application in both therapeutic and organizational settings remains
underexplored in professional training. This presentation, Enneagram: The
Basics and Beyond, addresses that gap by offering mental health clinicians and
practice leaders a comprehensive introduction to the Enneagram and its
practical utility in clinical and team contexts.
The session begins with a historical overview of the
Enneagram followed by a structured review of its key components: the nine
types, wings, centers of intelligence (Head, Heart, Body), triads, and security
and stress lines. Participants will gain a working knowledge of how each type
manifests in thought, emotion, and behavior, providing a shared framework for
understanding human diversity.
The presentation then explores clinical applications,
demonstrating how the Enneagram can deepen the therapeutic alliance, facilitate
insight into maladaptive patterns, and promote client self-awareness and
growth. Finally, the session examines how the Enneagram can be integrated within
multidisciplinary practice teams to improve communication, enhance
collaboration, guide role assignment, and support conflict resolution. Research
supporting the Enneagram's relevance to psychological well-being, personality
assessment, and organizational effectiveness is reviewed throughout.
By the end of this session, participants will be
equipped to recognize Enneagram types in clinical and collegial relationships,
apply type-informed strategies to support client progress, and leverage
personality diversity to strengthen their practice teams.
